Child's Play is a 1988 movie directed by Tom Holland and starring Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Brad Dourif, Alex Vincent, Dinah Manoff, Tommy Swerdlow, and Raymond Oliver. When serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) is shot by detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon) in a toy store, Charles uses voodoo to transfer his soul into a doll. Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) gives the Chucky doll to her son (Alex Vincent) for his birthday, and it turns out to be the worst birthday present ever.
The regular Chucky dolls are a little creepy-looking, so of course the one who murders people is even creepier. The moral of this story? Don't buy overpriced dolls for your kids...you never know which one might have the soul of a murderer in it, and it's better to be safe than sorry. ; )
