Movie Spotlight: The Lazarus Effect

The Lazarus Effect is a 2015 movie starring Mark Duplass, Olivia Wilde, Donald Glover, Evan Peters, and Sarah Bolger.  Medical researchers/engaged couple Frank and Zoe (Mark Duplass and Olivia Wilde) have created a serum that is meant to help coma patients.  The serum somehow ends up being able to bring people back to life...but not exactly the way the deceased used to be.  When Zoe dies after being electrocuted, Frank uses the serum to bring her back, and of course things go horribly wrong.  Resurrected Zoe is basically the old Zoe...except now she hears peoples' thoughts and has telekinesis.

I enjoyed The Lazarus Effect...it held my attention the whole time, and I liked the ending.  The movie has a great cast, and everyone gave impressive performances, even the dog.  It's definitely a better movie than the random paranormal Netflix movies I watch for this blog. ; )

TV Show Spotlight: Resurrection

A new show called Resurrection began airing on ABC on Sunday, March 9^th, and I’ve really been looking forward to it since I enjoyed the book it was based on (The Returned by Jason Mott).  The show takes place in the town of Arcadia, Missouri and is about deceased people coming back to life and returning to their loved ones.  Here’s a little about the characters:

J. Martin Bellamy (Omar Epps): An agent with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency

Jacob Langston (Landon Gimenez): Drowned when he was 8 years old, reappeared in China

Henry Langston (Kurtwood Smith): Jacob’s father

Lucille Langston (Frances Fisher): Jacob’s mother

Fred Langston (Matt Craven): The town sheriff and Henry’s brother; his wife died trying to save Jacob

Maggie Langston (Devin Kelley): A doctor and Fred’s daughter, Henry and Lucille’s niece

Tom Hale (Mark Hildreth): A local pastor, Jacob’s best friend from childhood

Elaine Richards (Samaire Armstrong): Maggie’s best friend

Caleb Richards (Sam Hazeldine): Elaine’s deceased father

I thought the first episode of Resurrection was great, and I’m looking to forward to watching the rest of the season.
